I live in the home that I grew up in and so by default and convenience my whole family comes “back home” here to celebrate both Thanksgiving and Christmas together. What was once a family of seven when I was a kid has grown extensively through the years and at times we have entertained up to 46 at one Thanksgiving! Needless to say seating at such times is at a premium and place cards can be a helpful tool when we are trying to get everyone to eat at a more formal table.
One neat, inexpensive idea for place is to use fall leaves as the actual card. Using a chalk board marker or colored Sharpe write a message and/or each guest’s name on the leaf. I am so lucky to have a magnolia tree in front of the house so have used both fresh off the tree green leaves and been-on-the-ground-a-while brown ones from this tree. Magnolia leaves are great for their thickness but any leaf will do. Pair the completed leaves with flowers or ribbons and some nice table linens, such as the ones pictured in this blog from Hen House Linens www.henhouselinens.com, and you have a grand tablescape for your holiday dinner. Now if these people would only stay in their seats…! Happy decorating, cooking and enjoying your Thanksgiving holiday from our house to yours.

Cink Art 2016 News! We enjoyed some very nice press this year highlighting some of our favorite products - Naval Acaemy Wedding Invitations and custom welcome maps. What’s Up Weddings magazine featured our stationery in a “Trend Watch” spread in their Fall/Winter 2016 issue. The excellent photography by Anna Reynal was from a cooperative room design we did with a variety of wedding vendors for this year’s Bowties and Bubblies wedding show at the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. The theme was Naval Academy Weddings and the elegant formal room design was done by Pop the Cork Designs and flowers by Little House of Flowers. Cink Art’s Naval Academy Crest invitation fit right in with the theme and the colors chosen for the room decor and we also made menus and place cards for the table setting. Several types of elegant handmade papers were used in the stationery design as well as an old fish net (!) and Elegant Laser Designs collaborated with us to create a design based on the actual gates at the Naval Academy as a cover for the menus and invitations. We are one of very few local stationers who are licensed to use the USNA and Marine Corps official crests on invitations and accessories. Thanks to What’s Up for the plug and GO NAVY! Also this year My Eastern Shore Wedding magazine commissioned us to draw a map of Maryland’s Eastern Shore for a tote bag they now offer for sale on their website www.myeasternshorewedding.com. The map has many of the Shore’s landmarks along the Chesapeake Bay and makes a great gift or welcome bag for wedding guests. Our thanks to MESW for the opportunity to create for them! |
